The Best Places To Pig Out In New Orleans

I had no shame in my indulgence of food while in New Orleans!  Here are a few favorites that I revisited and new places that I “discovered”!

Bubba Gump’s (Decatur St. & St Louis) – This restaurant is so much fun!  Enjoy Forrest Gump movie trivia while you wait to be seated.  This place totally embodies the film’s theme and uses fun movie elements in it’s decorations.  Some of the seafood entrees are pricey, but you’re sure to find something that satisfies your hunger and pleases your taste buds.

Cafe Du Monde (Decatur St. & St Ann St.) – The first whiff of beignets is heaven.  Warm, sweet heaven.  Take a peak inside the kitchen on the back-side of the store.  A street musician serenaded the plaza with an upbeat instrumental which jived well with the jovial Sunday morning chatter.  I shook my bag to cover my beignets with the powdered sugar that had clumped on the bottom.  Delicious.

Mother’s Restaurant (Poydras St. & Tchoupitoulas St.)  – Yearning for some home-style cooking?  Look no further than Mother’s with its specialities of fried chicken and bread pudding.  Dine in for New Orlean’s favorites during breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Warning, the line to get in usually snakes around the building!

Big Pie Pizza (Baronne St. & Perdido St.) – This shop was convenient to my hotel, but I wasn’t sure if I would be interested in trying the food.  As luck would have it, a rainstorm trapped us in the vicinity and we ran to the shop in hopes of a good lunch.  I’m glad we did; I wasn’t disappointed!  The price was good and as usual service was great.  Try the Spinach pizza.  It was beyond amazing.

Dee’s Coffee (Baronne St. & Perdido St.) – Try this coffee shop for interesting and fun flavored lattes like Pancakes and Bacon, Chicken and Waffles or Pralines and Cream.  My sister tried a “Pancakes and Bacon” latte, which she loved.  She actually “mmmmnnnn” in surprise when she tasted bacon!

Pinkberry (Canal St. & S Peters St.) – Not sure why I had to come all the way to New Orleans to try this shop.  There are locations right in my own city!  This place saved me on some of those steamy, hot days.  Frozen yogurt with unlimited toppings, including fruit, candy and cereal.  The perfect way to cool down!

Here’s a list of things you have to try just because you’re in N’Orleans!

And they don’t taste like chicken!

Frog Legs
Po Boy
Shrimp Etouffee

Oink Oink!  What are your favorite places in New Orleans?
