Need a vacation?
New Orleans is perfect for a getaway. Here’s why:
New Orleans in one word? Relaxed. This is a place where you can really put your feet up and take it easy. Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront or hear jazz music while resting in the park. It’s a welcome change of pace from city life.
Want another word? Fun. I love the friendly locals and their Southern hospitality, charming accents and terms of endearment. There are so many quirky things in New Orleans that will put a smile on your face. This city never fails to put me in a good mood.
The dining options are incredible ranging from grandma-style country cuisine to bayou style favorites, you are sure to find something to satisfy your appetite.
You’ll find lots of fun themed resturants like Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Co. and Huck Finn’s. There are also classic favorites like Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and the Hard Rock Cafe. Three meals isn’t enough!
Don’t be afraid to try dishes that you’ve only heard about like turtle soup and alligator on a stick. Your trip is the perfect time to get some adventurous traveler bragging rights!
New Orleanians knows how to throw a party!
Bourbon street can get a little rowdy. You’ll either love it or hate the nude photos pinned on windows and the seductresses calling out from doorways. Neon lights, loud music and colorful drinks decorate every shopfront.
Meet some great characters while you’re at it!
Clubs offer various musical offerings sure to entice any flavor. You have to try the famous New Orleans hand grenade at least once. Take your time and sip. You’re not confined to an establishment, so feel free to carry your drink on the street.
The Shops at Canal offer many upscale fashion stores.
There is also an eclectic range of shops offering various New Orlean’s style goods. Souvenir stores are available in abundance and a FedEx is located on Canal St. to mail larger purchases home.
Alternatively, the Riverwalk Marketplace offers a wide array of shopping along the scenic Mississippi River. Have lunch on the outdoor terrace, while you enjoy the views.
Want more shopping?
Try the French Market with it’s wide array of knick knacks and souvenirs.
There is something for everyone in New Orleans. Try your luck in Harrah’s Casino or take a relaxing riverboat cruise.
The attractions aren’t terribly crowded like many touristy cities and you’re able to enjoy your day without waiting in long lines.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Audubon Aquarium, which isn’t just full of fish! There is a parakeet aviary where you can actually hold the birds and an IMAX movie theatre. Want more wildlife? Try the Insectarium or the Zoo.
Best of all, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy your time in New Orleans. If you stay in the Central Business District, like I did, you’ll get plenty of exercise during your trip.
The walking distance between your hotel room and the attractions are hardly noticeable with all the fun signs and storefronts.
Walking is the best way to make sure you don’t miss a great photo opportunity, or an interesting souvenir shop.
It also helps to know that you’re walking off all that delicious food that you’re able to try during your trip.
Need to get away? Try New Orleans. You won’t regret it!
